If you're dealing with a drain clog, you may be able to solve matters on your own.

If you're troubleshooting a clogged toilet, use a plunger to attempt to push anything blocking the pipe through the system. Be careful as you do this not to flush your toilet multiple times, as this could cause your bathroom to flood.

Sink and bathtub drains can also be cleared with a plunger. If you choose to use a chemical like Draino, please do so sparingly, so as not to hurt the plumbing system.

If you lose power in your home, there may be a few different problems at play:

• Widespread outages due to bad weather, construction, or an overtaxed grid
• Problems with your utility account
• A temporary issue caused by overloading your circuit

You can troubleshoot the problem by calling your utility company. If you know you've tripped your circuit breaker, locate the breaker and move the lever back to the ON position to restore power.

Your property's hot water heater ensures a steady supply of water for your home. If your hot water goes out and you have a tank in your unit, check that the settings are accurate and attempt to cycle the tank if possible.

If you do make any changes, remember to wait 15 to 20 minutes before checking to see if the heater is working properly again.

If your property's HVAC system isn't working properly, check that the settings on your thermostat are correct before doing anything else. It may seem simple, but many problems are caused by accidental changes to the settings.
